Why Unravel 2 is such a great co-op to play with your tiny human
Hello my friends, Beximus here!
Are you a gamer mom or gamer dad? If so, you probably struggled a few times about what games are ok to play with your little ones. If you don’t have kids, worry not, Unravel 2 is one of the best co-op games to play with your friends and family too 🙂
Unravel 1 vs Unravel 2
Have you ever played the first Unravel videogame? It’s such a fun and beautiful adventure, that takes you in a journey through the past. Along the way, you collect tokens of wool, evade forest and sea animals while listening to an incredible soundtrack! Oh, in case you don’t know Unravel, you play as a Yarn doll, the cutest thing ever.
The only downside was, you had to play it alone. In all honesty, I can’t even consider it a negative aspect, but only after playing Unravel 2 with my little one I came to realise how this game could get even better!
So when Unravel 2 was announced we were both very happy! Seeing both Yarnies (the name of the yarn doll you play with) jumping, throwing their threads and helping each other out surpassing obstacles and solve puzzles was mind blowing!
“But, weren’t single player games a thing of the past?”
I was always a single player kind of gamer. Maybe because my early gaming years date from the 80’s, where internet and multiplayer were just stuff of dreams. The best we could get was playing some videogames against each other, like fighting games or sports games. Still, it was pretty basic and straightforward. And co-op was not always an option.
As 2020 approaches, and I’m 38 now, the videogames landscape dramatically changed from those days in the 80’s. You can rarely have a single player experience nowadays. Even when a game is single player, there’s normally an option to go online and play it in multiplayer. Sometimes, you can jump between the 2 modes. Until recently, many “experts” considered single player games to be almost extinct. Bad news guys, we now have God Of War, Spider-Man and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to prove you wrong!
Why 2 is better than 1 in Unravel 2
Somethings just work better using 2 people. It’s just what it is. While the first Unravel was a one player game, I can’t imagine Unravel 2 to be the same (although you can play it alone). As my daughter loved the first installment so much (she watched me play and played by herself too), when we learned that version 2 of it was launching and co-op was the biggest excitement, we had to own it! We could finally player Unravel together.
And so we did! I purchased the game, and it didn’t take is that long to finish it. We’ve played through it together so many times (this last weekend we played again) that the only thing missing for us to do, is to do the levels without perishing. It’s ok because she’s only 6 and some areas are tough even for adults. But for her age she plays super good (I wish I could be that good when I was 12!).
So to wrap this up, I truly believe that this is one of the best games out there for you to play with your tiny humans, once they turn 4 or 5. If they’re older, even better. I’ll be writing about parenting and videogames soon, but today I won’t approach that topic.
Just keep in mind that, having kids or not, Unravel 2 is one of the best games out there to experience couch co-op. Invite a friend or ask for your loved one to spend a few hours in this beautiful world of yarn dolls.
