Baldur's Gate

Baldur’s Gate is coming to consoles after 20 years on PC

Hello my friends, Beximus here!
Today we’ll talk about Baldur’s Gate, an epic RPG with 20 years of existence. And why are we doing that? Because it’s finally coming to consoles (that took a while lol)!

Baldur’s Gate on a console

Baldur's GateIn recent years we’ve seen several RTS (Real Time Strategy) games and classical RPGs making their way to the console world. It’s a simple equation, if there are more and more players playing console games or migrating from PC to this kind of platform, it only makes sense that devs wanna expand their realms of deliverance.

Although I wanted to play it before, I never got the chance to try Baldur’s Gate. My chance is finally here! You see, I’m a console player only, for the sole reason that it’s more comfortable for me to play videogames from there, with the kind of lifestyle I have. Going through dungeons and slaying all sorts of devilry and foes will now be a reality, when we’re playing from our sofas. Soon we’ll all be SofaGamers 🙂

The console challenge

Baldur's Gate As I don’t touch a PC to play videogames for more than 10 years now, I’m really happy when developers decide to bring their games to consoles. Although playing RTS games and RPGs on consoles is fantastic, there’s always been a tough spot to master: controls.

Controls have always been a handicap in consoles for this type of videogames, but in the last 2 or 3 years, there has been a significant evolution regarding this matter. Therefore, nowadays it’s easy to play strategy games and classical RPGs smoothly.

baldur's gateProof of that, is for example Frostpunk, a strategy title hitting consoles in October. There’s also Civilization VI for Switch or Jurassic World: Evolution, just to name a few. I can confirm that they are a joy to play and you can’t even feel the absence of a mouse or keyboard, while at it.

Baldur’s Gate: what you’ll get and when

Baldur's GateGameplay wise, we’ll be getting pretty much the same as on PC, but enhanced in all fronts. That said, we should expect the same level of thrill and exploration. There’ll be five different games of Baldur’s Gate coming to PS4, XBox One and Nintendo Switch: Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition, Baldur’s Gate II, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale.

These five titles will be sold in three separate collections. Here’s how they’re set to be sold for consoles, on September 24:

The Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition Pack: Celebrating the series’ 20th anniversary, the original Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and its sequel, Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition, return with all DLC and restored quest content, as well as the Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion, featuring new original content developed by Beamdog to bridge the two games.

Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition / Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition: Two must-play games and all their DLC in one package – the chilling Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition, plus its expansions, and the enhanced edition of 1999’s RPG of the Year, Planescape: Torment.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition: The 2002 Computer RPG of the Year and all its DLC deliver 10 standalone D&D-based adventures featuring co-op and online multiplayer.

Each edition is priced at 49,99$/39,99€/39,99£. I’ve seen some websites selling it for less, so make sure to do some research if you wanna pre-order it, to get the best deal available. There’s also a Collector’s Pack with more physical content, but that’ll ship only in October. On the image above you can see what’s in it, but go here to read all the specs. Oh, there’ll also be an Ultimate Enhanced Edition Collector’s Pack, with all three editions and much more content. Just look at this!
