Why NieR: Automata blew my mind!

nier automata sofa gamersNieR Automata, the Japanese RPG everyone should be playing

NieR Automata was a very pleasant discovery, especially because I’m not the biggest fan of this genre of Japanese games. I tried the demo a few days ago (close to 1h of gameplay), and the only thing in my mind right now, is to go and buy the game right away! It really impressed me, and that´s not easy regarding Japanese RPGs (didn’t I just said it before?…).

The year is 11945 and you’re controlling a female cyborg with a blind fold that goes by the name of 2B. Just to give you a clear picture, she is sexy, wears high heal boots and has 2 huge swords to slash any type of machinery that gets near.
2B has a fellow companion, a sort of daemon like in Philip Pullman’s trilogy “His Dark Materials”. Only difference is that this one shoots bullets faster than a spinning machine gun! And that will help you a lot.

Old rusty silos with degrading ladders, brown pipes and plenty of industrial fences set the tone for you to move around, in your quest to find that high class non-identified robot that is the purpose of your mission in this demo. And boys and girls, will you be amazed when it rises up from the deep!…

nier automata sofa gamersThe gameplay is smooth and intuitive, the pace is fast and might get hectic every now and then, the fighting sequences are enjoyable, perfect for you to discover and test those attacking combos. Talking about combos, as you play you’ll discover by chance that are more combos that you might expect. One thing that I loved about them, is that they come very naturally and are extremely effective. I have the paradigm that combos are a pain in the ass, pretty much unbearable to learn, but in the case of Nier Automata they are a joy to use, and really help you out.

Slash, drop from above, run into those robots or simply shred them with your “daemon” gun, the choice is yours. While playing, I chose to keep the dialogues in Japanese with English subtitles, to keep experience even more original. Give it a try, it´s definitely cool!
