Project Awakening – 5 reasons to be excited about this Action RPG

Have you heard about Project Awakening? I didn’t until a month ago and got extremely excited about this videogame. Keep reading and I’ll tell you why.
Project Awakening is an Action RPG
There is a shroud of mystery around Project Awakening. The game has been revealed behind closed doors, so to say. Its teaser trailer came out almost a year ago and during this year’s E3, which was huge in terms of new announcements for 2019 and 2020, Project Awakening kept itself in stealth mode. Did you see something about it at E3 2019? I didn’t… But then, I’m terrible at spotting stealthy NPCs.
To give you some context, this is an action RPG, with a strong medieval touch, beautiful surrounding nature and something that is a huge plus for me, Dragons (but more on that later). From what I’ve investigated, the development stage the game is in, is not that advanced. There’s still plenty of ideas and gameplay decisions being discussed and analysed to bring the game to the best outcome possible. Developer Cygames is proud of saying they deliver the best content and entertainment, so keep your fingers crossed and let’s hope for the best!
5 reasons to keep an eye open for Project Awakening
1- It’s a PS4 exclusive
I consider that to be a very positive point. Why? Looking back at the latest exclusive PS4 titles, you can only drool over the quality presented to us. Horizon Zero Dawn. God of War. Spider-Man. Detroit Become Human. Days Gone. The list goes on…
2- Dragons
YES, Dragons! I love Dragons. Can’t explain why, it’s a visceral thing. Creatures of beauty, strength and wisdom. Sadly they’re often treated as savage beasts, but I’m still waiting on a game where we are the Dragon! In Project Awakening, they seem to play an important role (I’m hoping these are Dragons, not just big lizards). Let’s hope this goes Dragon wise…
3- Strong influences from Lord Of The Rings & Game of Thrones
Producer Kenichiro Takaki said in an interview that the game has strong influences from the worlds created by Tolkien and George Martin. This looks like a promising mash-up! What magnificent creature would you love to see in game, mixing both worlds? Let us know in the comments.
4- Focus on co-op
There will be single player, co-op and multiplayer. The interesting part of co-op is that you can play games with your friends, relatives or significant other from the comfort of your sofa. Anything better than that?… Cygames is betting on it.
5- The name “Project Awakening” is a placeholder
This is still prototype phase peeps! As the game develops and progresses, creators must be waiting for a name with a stronger punch to come into their minds. “Awakenings Realms” maybe?…
Still a (lot of) work in progress
The only downside I’m able to spot at this stage, is the absence of a release date. In a recent interview with Fextralife, Producer Kenichiro Takaki stated:
That might take some time. To give you a bigger picture, Cygames company slogan is “The best content and entertainment”. So we are always aiming to bring the user high quality and products they can enjoy, once we think we have put something together, that can be enjoyed by the users, we will release it. But right now we are not at this stage. Probably next year.
Now, what I understand from this is “it’s not gonna happen soon, sorry. Not at all”. If the game still has so many ideas being studied and discussed internally, I doubt that a videogame of this magnitude will be ready for release in 2020.
Will it only be next gen?
The above reasons might be an indicator that the rumors about Project Awakening being one of the first titles for the next generation of consoles, are not that far from the truth.

The trailer’s worth sharing anyway, but look for interviews or YouTube info about Project Awakening, because so far, little more than we covered can be told.
