Code Vein launches September 27

Hello my peeps, Beximus here!
Code Vein has been promised since more than a year but finally we have a launch date, September 27th!

Code Vein is all about vampire stuff

codevein Mia KarnsteinDo you happen to fathom vampire lore? Love JRPGs? Have a thing for anime? If so, Code Vein is the perfect game for you.

Mixing some interesting ingredients, developer Bandai Namco came up with a nice cocktail. They named it Code Vein and vampires are in the spotlight (well, not literally, otherwise they would turn into ash).

In Code Vein you should prepare to die a few times, or so I’ve read. Not in a Dark Souls way, golly, no one deserves that! Even if the Boss fights resemble to DS a lot. The thing here is that you’ll be wandering in a land void of humans. The only things lying around are creatures called the Lost. These are the way they are due to their lust for power. As always, that comes with a price, intense bloodlust. And they lost their minds too. But then, what are you?

For more details about Code Vein, read the overview at Bandai Namco’s website.

To survive in Code Vein you have to give up your memories

codevein charactersThis topic is clearly something that interests me: memory loss. If I understood well, each time you need to progress further in the game, you have to give up something. More specifically, your memories.

The world as we know it is gone. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. Those who remain fight for survival by acquiring Gifts of power in exchange for their memories, and an ever-increasing thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost; fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity who wander aimlessly in search of blood. Team up and embark on a journey to the ends of hell to unlock your past and escape your living nightmare in CODE VEIN.

codevein snowNow, this looks tricky and awesome at the same time. For sure we don’t wanna become a ghoul and be part of the Lost for all eternity. At the same time, not much is explained about your vampiric skills. Meaning, I have no clue how or what I will become! You’ll have to choose from a variety of “gifts” to increase your strength, weaken enemies and use combos.

When I say “gifts” is because that’s what Bandai is putting out here in their description of the game, with ” ” and all. I smell that some of these might be actual curses instead… which makes it all more interesting, as I really enjoy moments of duality in videogames progression. I’m really curious how this whole thing is gonna unfold and what we can become as Revenants.

The Opening Cinematic

WOW! Breathtaking this cinematic is. If you wish to learn more about the creative process of this cinematic, some artwork and the work behind it check this out. What I mainly take from this cinematic is the duality of the characters. Being a Revenant in a world like this is about choices. You can save a kid’s life slaying the ghouls that chased him and a few minutes later you’re fighting a boss, using your special weapon and sucking blood out of him to give you more power. Interesting…

A Collector’s Edition is available. Or is it 2?…

Code Vein CE digital You probably can’t get it anywhere now, but Code Vein comes with a Collector’s Edition. The main highlight is the statue of Mia Karnstein, the main protagonist of the game. But you’ll snatch some exclusive DLC + a collector’s box. Here’s the full list:

  • 17cm figurine of character Mia Karnstein complete with her Bayonet and signature Stinger weapon
  • Collector box
  • Digital content:
    • Code Vein’s Original Soundtrack including over 20 tracks
    • Code Vein’s Original Artbook for an exclusive peak at production sketches, concept art and guest artwork
    • In-game customisation set: Insatiable Bloodthirst

For a Collector’s Ed, it brings too much digital content and few physical items. I would expect a steelbook and a physical artbook instead of the digital one. But it’s a small box, you can’t put so many things inside. Let’s hope the statue kills it!

Wait a minute! You might say “but Bex, I already saw images of a Collector’s Edition with a physical artbook + physical CD with the OST”. Yes my good friend, you are absolutely right! And, because I like to prove you right, here’s an image of that advertisement.

Code Vein CE physical

So there’s still hope that I’ll get a physical artbook and a “for real” CD with the game’s Original Soundtrack. I hope you can get a physical edition too. As for me, I really have no idea of what’ll come my way…

A final note, there’s another great videogame coming in August that plays almost like an anime: Astral Chain! To read my thoughts about it go here.
