There’s still hope for No Man’s Sky
(In No Man’s Sky) Hail the update!
On March this year, a huge shift took place in the treatment of No Man’s Sky. With the release of the Path Finder Update, the game had another big improvement. Lately, I’ve been trying it myself, so I bear witness that the game is starting to get as most of us fans imagined it to be. It all began a few months before, with the previous Foundation Update, introducing new game modes, base building, farming, among others.
For those that purchased the game in its pre-order stage like me, we couldn’t avoid feeling the disappointment when the title was delivered. I even stopped playing the damn thing for months! But deep inside, I didn’t lose all hope. I knew that someday things would be fixed, No Man’s Sky had to be as I was picturing it!
Connecting with the fans
Yesterday my hopes confirmed! I’ve read a bunch of news regarding the Path Finder Update, saw some live streaming and debated with some dedicated NMS gamers (they call themselves Alliance Of Galactic Travellers, they are good people, you should check them out) and I must say that I’m convinced on what’s to come. August will probably bring another update, with fans already speculating on what might be there to explore.

Controllers on!
As soon as I had the chance I grabbed my PS4 controller, waiting for the update to be installed. A few minutes later, I was starting a new venture in No Man’s Sky. I was gonna enjoy it like it was the first time! to be honest, I can’t say much yet because I only played around 2h to 3h. I didn’t get to the point of exploring planets, buying/selling goods, building my base of operations or even start investing in vehicles.
Talking about vehicles, I held them responsible for giving NMS a new shot! As I watched the update trailer my eyes popped out, my jaw dropped!… My mind started to imagine colorful landscapes, infinite star systems to explore and all that flora and fauna to catalog! So much to do…
The list of improvements and added value is so long, that I didn’t even dare to write them down. I can only recommend that you check the full scope of the Path Finder Update for yourself. For a shorter version of it, check the video below.
Races? Did you say races?
Yes, actually I just did! You’ll be able to race in No Man’s Sky. There’s something called Race Initiator, that you can place inside your Base Building zone. You’ll need to develop new technologies to improve the performance of each available vehicle. A total of 3 are available, so you can test them out and take the best out of each one.
Races work on a checkpoint track system, if you’re really into it and wanna know how the racing works and feels, search on Youtube for it. A few videos there might give you a better understanding of the racing aspects of the title. I’m still not sure if you can extend the track that much, which might be a downside. But then, this isn’t a racing game. See it more like a kind of lonely guy’s hobby living on an inhabited planet.
The brilliant photo mode
Hats off to the guys at Hello Games, the photo mode in this game is absolutely stunning! They nailed it so well, that the possibilities to take gorgeous shots are endless. You simply need to press a button to enter it and then lose yourself for long minutes to take that perfect shot. You’ll be able to choose between several moments of the day (just to take the picture), fog density, cloud height, apply (if you want) a series of filters, just to name a few options. Then a trained photographer’s eye will allow you to collect that perfect picture.

Shaking the rust off
Previously, I said that I didn’t play NMS for some months, but let’s be more accurate and say it was almost 1 year. Before installing the latest update, my last saved game dated back to August 2016!
Two days ago I took back the commands of my spaceship. Things shook a bit but I think my space pilot skills are not that bad… (Crash down there says ‘thumbs up!’)
